East-West Highway: No Tolls in 2025

No worries, there will be no toll on the East-West highway in 2025, at least that is what the information and communication unit of the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructures affirmed this Wednesday in a press release, specifying that the diversion of traffic from the current lane of the East-West highway to the corridors dedicated to the toll stations of Mouzaïa (Blida) and Khemis El Khechna (Boumerdès) "has no connection with the launch of the toll operation on this road axis" and the diversion of traffic "is part of the periodic maintenance work of the East-West highway", something that has panicked the web and rumors of imminent openings of toll stations, and affirming that:

the toll “is not included in the Government’s program” for 2025.

A respite for motorists until 2026.

As a reminder, Algeria does not yet have a toll road for the moment while waiting for the toll of the East-West highway, the toll stations of which are currently being built and the applicable rates have not been defined. This highway is fully completed in August 2023 after 17 years of work, it stretches from the eastern border with Tunisia to the western border with Morocco, thus connecting the northern cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. 1,216 km in a straight line, it has a total length of 1,720 km including the side roads and ramps. It will have to have 56 toll stations initially planned for 2021.
