Before the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL hardtop roadster was officially unveiled, the Mercedes-Benz designers in Sindelfingen came up with the idea of giving the hardtop two small hinged doors.
Unfortunately, the 'winglet' idea was scrapped before the car went into production.
It is unknown what happened to this 1955 hardtop. However, a hardtop with stubby fins, similar to this 1955 model, does exist, although its history is not known.
